As we are heading towards our future, one thing is a constant- 'Environmental Damage'. But its high time, to change this constant now. We are humans, and we have the power to do this. We are citizens, and we have the power to do this. Every small effort at individual level brings a big-big environmental impact. Here I am listing just five easy changes that anyone can easily bring into their lifestyle.
1. Carrying water bottle-
We were/are used to carry water bottles in our school, or at least I was. With the introduction of mineral water, packed in very thin plastic bottles, our environment is suffering. Its not because of plastics, as I feel, but because of one-time usability of same. And smaller sizes of these worsen the situation. Anyway, I make sure to carry a water bottle with me. The biggest pro with it is, I don't have to search for water as my bottle is filled.
2. Controlling consumerism-
I used to buy a lot of products, and a lot of them got expired before using them. Its all, my money is gone, the product is wasted, the jar is thrown, and there are no records of all the shipping, fuels, electricity, water, storage, etc. Keeping a check on what you need to buy, and when makes a lot of difference. You'll be richer, I swear. Start by reducing consumerism on one niche, may it be beauty, or may be clothes, or may be skincare, or may be makeup.
3. Carrying re-usables-
Steel Straw, reusable handbags, tiffin box, are some other things I carry. I refuse to accept straws while consuming coconut water. I refuse the extra carry bags while shopping (groceries, clothes, or anything else). I refuse disposable plates while buying a samosa, or fritters, or even give it in restaurant to pack the food.
4. Reuse -
This has to be my favorite step. Its very easy! I have started to re-use my empty jars to make some DIY face masks (powdered ones). In fact, I have used a lot of my big face wash empties to plant pothos in them and kept it in bathroom. It looks lovely. Instead of getting even a coconut shell and spoon, I use empty jam cup to make my face/hair masks. Similarly, use the same bottle to refill hand wash again and again. Using old floor cleansing bottle to mist my plants (after making some holes). Using old spray bottle to make my room freshener, and anti-mosquito spray.
5. Planting-
An aspect which is often overlooked by us. If you want to create an environment which is sustainable. We need to plant, may it be indoors, outdoors, may it be pothos or trees. These are the homes to certain beautiful creatures, such as, butterflies. And, there are certain low maintenance plants (water them like twice a month, example). Many of such plants cleanses the environment, provides more oxygen, drinks up pollutants, etc. Look up to plants such as Geranium, ZZ Plant, Snake Plant, Coleus, Dumb Cane, Money Plant, Syngonium, to name a few.
Next time, I'll come up with some easy, zero-waste beauty switches.
Until Next time,
XoXo
